Eccola, nella sua versione più classica.
Da qualche tempo, un ascolto che devo fare almeno una volta al dì.
La mia preferita di sempre di Tyler, Perry & co. Sebbene, come struttura e come sound, sia una delle più anomale fra le loro hit, acida e dura più del solito, a dispetto del titolo. Anzi forse proprio per questo mi piace di più di altre.

Loro, sono sempre dei grandi.
Quel genere di gruppo che, al pari di AC/DC o che ne so GnR, quando li ascolti non PUOI fisicamente stare fermo senza muovere almeno un piedino o la testina. Semplici, lineari, immediati, diretti. Rock n' roll, insomma.
Persino il più incallito truzzo bussomane da discoteca non può resistergli.

Consiglio musicale della settimana

Concludiamo la settimana con un consiglio per l'ascolto.
Il disco è di qualche anno fa (2002 se non erro) ed è uscito già il lavoro nuovo...
I Silverchair sono uno dei gruppi più importanti (forse IL più importante) del nuovo panorama indie. Australiani, il cantante David Johns oltre ad avere una voce veramente bella (a tratti un po' lagnosa) è anche fidanzato con Natalie Imbruglia. Il che gli aggiunge automaticamente +10 punti della mia stima come essere umano.

Insomma il disco.
Davvero bello: si passa dall'intro "Across the Night" a pezzi intensi come "Tuna in the Brine", al rock di "The Lever", alla chiusura struggente con "After all these years". Un vero concept album, segno di grossa maturità. Non ho ascoltato bene il nuovo disco, "Young modern" ma sembra mantenere le promesse.

Ascolto di qualche anno fa.
L'amore inizio quando, in viaggio negli US (bei ricordi...), alla radio passavano insistentemente questa canzone, singolo dell'estate 2000.
Quando sono entrato nel Virgin Store di S.Francisco, non avevo dubbi quindi su quali sarebbero stati i dischi con cui sarei uscito: "Binaural" del Pearl Jam e quel "Human Clay" dei Creed, gruppo che ricordavo di aver sentito passare con estratti del loro precedente lavoro su VIVA, defunto canale satellitare tedesco che faceva veramente bella musica.

Stile southern/post grunge, bel suono massiccio. Bellissima la voce di Scott Stapp.
Forse si può tacciarli di scarsa originalità musicale, e probabilmente a ragione. E anche di eccessivo sentimentalismo e piacioneria qua e la. Ma sono accuse troppo facili da rivolgere a un gruppo che, per quanto faccia rock duro, è pur sempre mainstream. Un gruppo che è stato in cima alle classifiche con diversi singoli da ciascuno dei tre album da studio (My Own Prison, Human Clay, Weathered), e ci è tornato con il "Greatest Hits" del 2004, pubblicato già dopo lo scioglimento della line-up principale.

Ora, al di là dei singoloni commerciali (alcuni dei quali, comunque, belli massicci: come "What if", che fu anche nella colonna sonora di "Scream3"), hanno anche prodotto bella musica, tout-court. Nella mia personale classifica degli "schiacciasassi", questa canzone si piazza decisamente ai piani alti... :)

Lo ammetto, l'ispirazione per il riascolto è nata da questa orrenda semi-cover del loro pezzo più famoso.

Ma, non tutto il male viene per nuocere.
Ho ripreso in mano la discografia di questo gruppo mitico. Immensi, non si potrebbe definirli diversamente. Storia della musica, e non solo di quella leggera. Talento e immaginazione e invenzione e lirismo. Sono stati un fenomeno davvero di proporzioni enormi nel panorama musicale asfittico degli anni '70 e '80 dominato solo dall'heavy e hard/glam. Davies e Hodgson sono uno dei sodalizi artistici più equilibrati e duraturi che conosca.

Ora, sebbene il loro disco più famoso e venduto sia proprio "Breakfast in America" (della cui title-track la robaccia indegna lassù sarebbe la cover), io consiglio come sempre l'ascolto dell'opera omnia. Perché, fra l'altro, secondo il mio modestissimo parere BiA non è il loro disco più significativo. "Crime of the century", "Crisis? What crisis?" e "Even in the quietest moments" sono tutti e tre migliori.

Ecco cosa ho ascoltato tutta la settimana. Casomai vi tornasse utile un consiglio...

Tool - 10,000 Days.
Semplicemente: capolavoro. Stento a credere che questa band possa produrre sempre musica migliore col passare degli anni, senza mai perdere l'ispirazione. Come ho scritto in un commento dalla Lopez, e concordato con Cris, Maynard James Keenan è uno dei geni del panorama musicale odierno, tout-court. Sto disco abbonda di killer tracks. In particolare consiglio (oltre all'ascolto completo, ovviamente):

The Pot - Pezzone violento un bel po'. Crescendo iniziale con ingresso di chitarra e ripartenza sul finale da brividi.
Vicarious - Opening track. Semplicemente stupenda.
Jambi - Estraniante come poche.

Extreme - Three Sides to Every Story
Sto disco lo avevo ascoltato l'ultima volta nel 1996. Poi va beh qualche pezzo lo avevo risentito.
Mi ero dimenticato di quanto fosse bello, complesso e completo. Già l'idea di partenza, di raccontare una storia (d'amore, finita) da tre punta di vista differenti (che danno il nome ai tre "capitoli". His, Hers & The Truth) non è banale. Poi, trovano spazio qui dentro musiche e liriche davvero notevoli, sicuramente il meglio della produzione di Cherone & soci. Consiglio:

Rest in Peace - Fu anche il singolo di lancio. Funk rock allo stato puro.
Politicalamity - Pezzone drittone.
Who Cares - Struggente traccia finale. Occhio ai cori e all'arrangiamento sinfonico.

Creedence Clearwater Revival - Best of
Un altro mito di gioventù. Se il country-folk ha un nome, persino più rappresentativo degli Eagles, sono loro, i CCR.
John Fogerty la voce più calda di sempre. Un disco da macchina e da viaggio, assolutamente. Anche solo per pulire la testa alla mattina quando andate a farvi il culo per 10 ore in ufficio, o dove vi tocca sudare per guadagnare la pagnotta.
Troppi i pezzi mitici, per ricordarli tutti qui.

Il consiglio musicale per il weekend (se mai interessasse a qualcuno, cosa di cui dubito) è servito...

Boy Hits Car: una band veramente controversa, difficilmente inquadrabile e incazzata oltre misura. A me fanno impazzire. La voce lamentosa ma anche armoniosa è una delle migliori, più calde della scena rock attuale, credo (insieme a quella dei Chevelle, forse). Liriche a volte retoriche, ma dense comunque. Sono finiti nella mia "Angry Rock Combo" da macchina insieme a gente non da poco come i RATM.

Singoli che consiglio:

- "I'm a Cloud" (stupenda... l'urlo prima dell'ultima strofa è da accelerazione a 9G)
- "Man Without Skin"
- "Lovefurypassionenergy"
- "Going to India"
- "La Playa"
- "As I watch the Sun f**k the Ocean"

Sappiatemi dire che ne pensate...

PS: Dal vivo, credo che siano qualcosa di incredibile. Ho visto solo foto e filmati. So che non c'è alcuna ragionevole possibilità di vederli da queste parti, ma mi gusterebbero, e tanto!

Due consigli musicali per voi

Due band per la precisione.

Primo gruppo: Nonpoint. Nu-metal/rapcore stile P.O.D. Però alcune tracks so veramente schiacciasassi. Consiglio "Alive and kicking" e soprattutto "Bullet with a name" dal loro ultimo disco, "To the pain". Sono peraltro gli autori (non lo sapevo) della bellissima cover di "In the air tonight" di Phil Collins presente nella colonna sonora di "Miami Vice".

Poi un altra band: Black Stone Cherry. Lo stile è heavy/southern sulla falsariga dei Godsmack, per capirci. Ma c'hanno TANTO groove.

Una delle mie passioni di "gioventù". Anche se all'epoca capivo ben poco dei testi, la suggestione delle musiche già bastava.
